Kakamega Forest National Reserve
In Kakamega forest, Birds is the bigest draw, there is over 360 birds species in these 25 birds species found only in kakamega forest but no wherelse in the country, in these also 2 species in East Africa these is the only place to be found.
Kakamega forest is one of theImportant Bird Area that many people who have intrest in birds should visit.
Good time for Birding is early in the morning from 6:30am to 9:00am or evening as from 3:00pm to 6:30pm in these hours birds become active and feeding.
During meet day, Birds are common with only calls and they hide in high canopy.
There are different habitats of birds in Kakamega forest, these are; primary forest habitat, secondary forest habitat, natural grassland habitat and riverine habitat.
Kakamega forest avifauna is unique not only nationally, but continentally. Several species have isolated, they include; Ansorge’s Greenbul, Blue-headed Bee-eater, Chapin’s Flycatcher and Turner’s Eromomela , which are absent from all or nearly all of the superficially similar mid-elevation forest in Uganda.Other than those species mention above, others include;Banded Snake Eagle,African Crowned Eagle,Red-chested Owlet,Toro-Olive and Honeyguide Greenbul, Grey-chested Illadopsis, Grey-winged and Blue-shouldred Robi, Southern Hyliota and Yellow-bellied Wattle eye.
