Hell's Gate Cycling Tour
Hell's Gate is one of Kenya's smallest National Park's covering an area of only 68 square km. This makes it an ideal place for a day trip. The park is home to a wide variety of plains game, including large herds of giraffe, zebra, kongoni, and buffalo.
The cliffs here are a good place to see the klipspringer, a small rock climbing antelope, as well as baboons and rock hyrax. Leopards are often seen at dusk. The Park is a haven for ornithologists and attracts rock climbers.
Walking into the lower gorge is a fascinating trek through winding rock canyons, with geothermal steam vents and hot springs along the way. The starting point for this trek can be reached by car or bicycle and there is a secure rangers post for parking.
Walking the full length of the gorge takes about 4 hours. We have guides available for guided hikes. The Park is also excellent biking country, and allows the cyclist to ride through herds of plains game.
Attractions in Hell's Gate National Park
Birdwatching is popular here: The cliffs of Hell's Gate are breeding grounds for vultures, Verreaux's Eagles, Augur Buzzard and thousands of swifts; 103 species of bird have been recorded in the park. There are current efforts to reintroduce breeding pairs of Lammergeyer, the world's largest vulture into the park.
